Alexandre Selmer moved to the United States performing as the principal clarinetist for the Boston Symphony. In 1885, Henri began making reeds, mouthpieces, and clarinets in Paris. The story of the Selmer Company dates back to the 1800’s with brothers Alexandre and Henri Selmer’s graduation from the Conservatoire de Paris. The clarinet established a reputation for affordability and high quality and by 1978, sold over one million units. The clarinet was modeled after the famous Selmer Paris BT clarinet used by notable artists like Benny Goodman. In 1948, Selmer produced the first successfully molded plastic clarinet called the Bundy Resonite 1400.

Selmer USA began making (or selling) Manhatten metal clarinets and Manhatten wood clarinets in the 1920s.
Selmer bundy bass clarinet serial numbers#
The Selmer USA serial numbers for the forties, in the list that I have, show. These were possibly pre-WWII instruments, but there is no trademark specifically registered for the supposed pre-war 'Selmer Signet' logo like the one pictured on Steve Sklar's Clarinet Perfection website. The anomaly is the logo that has both Selmer and Signet names inside the oval. It has been in storage for a little while so it will need to be checked over and cleaned and put in good playing condition. The clarinet is in overall good condition. Comes with a hard case and a Bundy 3 Mouthpiece with ligature and cover.
